There is more to a custom print than meets the eye... a look at color correction on a print by print basis.
Quality is everything...
Our customers are number 1 and we do this for each and every one of them.
- First we retrieve the source of the image from millions of files in our files archive.
- We examine the source image and prepare it to go to the lab. Cropping instruction are given, color notes are made, clients special requests are noted, images are spotted, etc.
- The lab receives the order and creates a computer file for the job.
- Each source image is then individually analyzed for its cyan, magenta & yellow characteristics.
- Notes are added to the computer job file for that individual source image needing corrections.
- They move through the entire order this way until all of the source images have been analyzed and their data stored.
- The batch of source images then moves to the printing area of the lab and a test print is made of each with the specific instructions stored for that job and for each source image.
- Once printed the stack of test prints are taken to an inspector who will review each one for color balance. They mark with a grease pencil on the face of each print what they see is needed. e.g. (-2c, +3m, +1y).
- The stack of marked test prints is then taken to an input technician who updates the job file with all this
new data.
- Images are then sent back to the printing area of the lab for printing again. (go back to step #7) The test prints stay in this loop of step #7-#10 until all make it through with the OK from the inspector.
- The entire order is now printed in the quantities and sizes that the photographer has requested.
- The order is accumulated in storage bins until it is complete and is then shipped back to us at the studio.
- We receive the images and our team at the studio inspects every print in the order to see if it matches what we were expecting from the lab.
- If we are not happy with a print we send it back to the lab and they starts over this whole process on that print. Go back to step #3 and work your way through #14.
- When we are satisfied and with the order it is assembled and we contract the customer.
It matters to us!
Imagine this for a couple of hundred source images for each and
every album we produce and you will get a sense of how much we care about our clients.
